Sensor Transmitter (ST 2) will wirelessly connect any 20 Series sensor with the Process Transmitter (PT 2). Compatible sensors include DO, SS, pH, and ORP sensors. The 20 Series system allows for flexible and economical process monitoring and control.

The ST 2 has an outdoor line of sight range of up to 1500 feet. If the PT 2 is mounted indoors, the closest ST 2 should be within 600 feet. The ST 2 links together with other ST 2’s and the host PT 2 to form a ZigBee compliant RF network with self-healing mesh technology ensuring trouble-free communications. This significantly reduces installation costs as the there is no need for interconnecting cable or conduit.

The back lit display can be programmed to show one, two, four, eight, or sixteen sensor readings continuously. If only one channel is displayed a trend graph of the last twenty four hours for that sensor will also be displayed. All sensor status and readings can be sent to the SCADA system or to a PLC via the two wire RS485 ModBus output.

The wireless mesh network topology for industrial control and sensing is a point-to-point-to-point, or peer-to-peer, system called an ad hoc, multi hop network. A node can send and receive messages, and in a mesh network, a node also functions as a router and can relay messages for its neighbors. Through the relaying process, a packet of wireless data will find its way to its destination, passing through intermediate nodes with reliable communication links.

Like the Internet and other peer-to-peer router-based networks, a mesh network offers multiple redundant communications paths throughout the network. If one link fails for any reason (including the introduction of strong RF interference), the network automatically routes messages through alternate paths.

In a mesh network, you can shorten the distance between nodes, which dramatically increases the link quality. If you reduce the distance by a factor of two, the resulting signal is at least four times more powerful at the receiver. This makes links more reliable without increasing transmitter power in individual nodes. In a mesh network, you can extend the reach, add redundancy, and improve the general reliability of the network simply by adding more nodes.
